Looking at the dilapidated shop no one would guess that this is where an artist has been practicing for about 42 years. Locally known as “Pappu Ostad”, the artist immerses himself in painting portraits, film banners and rickshaw art.

I was wandering in the alleys of Old Dhaka when I came across him. I saw several paintings left on the street-side for drying. Out of curiosity I inquired about the paintings and Mr. Pappu showed me his little shop which is rather unnoticeable otherwise. He is quite an introvert but I learned from him that he recently participated in the International Film Banner Art Festival in Denmark. He also told me that he painted countless posters during Liberation War. I asked him why he was working in a rundown shop. His response: “Time brought me here.”
