Tomorrow is Ekushey February, now observed worldwide as International Mother Language Day; we felt it'd be appropriate to delve into an issue that annoys us (and many Bangladeshis) -- the distortion of Bangla. You see it every day, everywhere; people do it casually, nonchalantly throughout the year. And then, come February, we wake up from this hibernation of senses and become uber-sensitive nationalists demonstrating propriety by wearing black. We have nothing against you wearing the new black panjabi or sari that you bought to wear at the Boi Mela tomorrow; we'd just like you to consider the priority here: giving Bangla the respect it deserves.
