Road crashes kill 4

Four people were killed and 16 others injured in separate road accidents in Rajshahi and Gaibandha yesterday. UNB reports: Two motorcyclists were killed and another co-rider was injured as a motorbike fell into a ditch after hitting a tree at Borochaola in Kaliakoir upazila yesterday morning. The victims were identified as Rubel, 15, and Shahajul, 19. Police quoting local sources said the accident occurred as the Fulbaria-bound motorbike from Kaliakair crashed into a tree and plunged into the roadside ditch at around 8am on Mouchak-Fulbaria road, leaving the two motorcyclists dead on the spot. On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. The unidentified injured co-rider was admitted to a local clinic. Our staff correspondent in Rajshahi reports: A bus driver was killed and ten others were injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Rajshahi road at Jhalmalia in the district's Puthia upazila early yesterday. The bus victim was identified as Haider Ali, 40. The accident took place when a Dhaka-bound passenger bus from Chapainawabganj collided head-on with a goods-laden truck. Among the injured, four were rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) while the others received treatment at Puthia Health Complex. The seriously injured are Sajal, Zahurul, Hafizur Rahman and Babu. Our correspondent in Gaibandha adds: A rickshaw van puller was killed and six others injured in a road accident on Rangpur-Bogra highway at Palashbari yesterday afternoon. The victim was identified as Shah Alam, 30. The accident took place when a speeding bus knocked the rickshaw van, forcing the van's way to a roadside ditch.
