15-hr blackout in Sylhet after nor'wester
The Sylhet region remained without electricity for around 15 hours till yesterday noon after severely hit by nor'wester on Thursday.
The half-an-hour tempestuous storm accompanied by heavy downpour affeected the region 9:15pm.
Although power supply in some city areas was restored in the morning, other areas had to wait until afternoon.
Thousands of trees were uprooted, more than 50 billboards and hundreds of tin-sheds were flown away and mud-built structures damaged.
A more than century-old banyan tree was uprooted after falling three electric poles on it near the Sylhet central jail.
The storm hit the region around 3:00pm again.
The mud-built houses at Bagbari, Akhalia, Kuarpar, Shibganj, Kodomtali, Dhopadighirpar, Sheikh Ghat and Tilagarh were damaged while about 30 people were injured.
Of them, 10 people treatment at Osmani Medical College Hospital, hospital sources said.
