Prime accused on remand
5 BCL men remanded in another case
A Chittagong court yesterday placed the prime accused in the Chittagong University (CU) student Md Asaduzzaman murder case on a five-day remand.
The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate KM Shamsul Alam granted the five-day remand of Sarwar Kamal Liton after Government Railway Police (GRP) SI Abul Hashem prayed for a seven-day remand.
In a drive on Monday afternoon, a team of Hathazari Police Station arrested Liton from the city's Muradpur area.
During preliminary interrogation on Monday night, Liton confessed to the police that he was involved in the plan to launch an attack on three CU students near the CU Railway station on April 15 night, which left Asaduzzaman dead.
The same court also granted three-day remand for five BCL activists in a murder case filed with GRP Chittagong in connection with the killing of CU student Harunur Rashid Kaiser on March 28.
The court granted the remand of the five BCL men after Government Railway Police (GRP) SI Abdur Rouf prayed for five-day remand.
The five BCL activists are Jahidul Islam Jewel alias Black Jewel, 26, Shantanu Mohajan, 25, Russel Barua, 22, Astarul Hoque Akhter, 25 and Raihanuddin, 24. Jewel is CU BCL deputy secretary (science and technology affairs).
The Hathazari police arrested them with lethal weapons from a cottage near CU campus on the night of April 15 after a clash between BCL activists and villagers following brutal attacks on some BCL activists that left Asaduzzaman dead.
Later, they were shown arrested in Kawser Murder case filed with GRP.
