Two killed, 45 injured in road crashes
At least two people were killed and 45 others injured in separate road accidents in Netrakona and Jhenidah yesterday.
Our correspondent from Netrakona reports: One person was killed and 30 others were injured in a road accident on Netrakona-Mymensingh road at Challisha in Sadar upazila here Tuesday night.
The dead was identified as Niamat Ali Sheikh, 40, of village Chapalia under Koira upazila in Khulna.
Police and local people said the accident occurred when 54 day-labourers of Koira upazila in Khulna were going to Dhaka from Mohonganj upazila in Netrakona by a truck. The truck fell into a roadside paddy field when its driver lost his control over the steering at Challisha, leaving Niamat dead on the spot and 30 others injured.
Of the injured, Habibur Rahman, Mukter Hossain, Shahidur Rahman, Saddam Hossain, Ashraful Islam, Iliash Ali and Shohor Ali were sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital in critical condition. Others were admitted to Netrakona Sadar Hospital.
Our correspondent from Jhenidah adds: A helper of a truck was killed and 15 others were injured in a road accident on Jhenidah-Kushtia highway in front of Bardah madrasa under Shailokupa upazila in Jhenidah yesterday.
The dead was identified as Rafiq, 30, of Ullahpara village in Sirajganj district.
Police and witnesses said the accident occurred when a Kaira-bound truck carrying 32 workers hit a roadside tree in front of Bardah Madrasa as its driver lost his control over the steering, leaving helper Rafiq dead on the spot and 15 others injured.
The injured were rushed to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital. All the injured hailed from Kaira village in Khulna.
Police sent the body to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. The driver managed to flee.
