Biral upazila chairman sent to jail

The Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members arrested the chairman of Biral upazila in Dinajpur yesterday on charges of assaulting the UNO and damaging the portrait of the prime minister on Thursday. Later, the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court sent Chairman Md Mokarram Hossain alias Moka to jail after rejecting his bail prayer. Rab arrested Mokarram Hossain in the early morning, as Biral upazila AL president Md Ishak Ali Sarker filed a case against him on Thursday night. Meanwhile, UNO AKM Azadur Rahman, who was assaulted, received a threat over his cellphone. He filed a general diary with Biral upazila Police Station in this connection. To investigate the incident, Additional Divisional Commissioner of Rajshahi Sawpan Kumar Roy arrived in Biral upazila yesterday and held separate meetings with the family members of Mokarram Hossain and law enforcement agencies.
