British Council yesterday announced a national competition to select new international climate champions in Bangladesh. Global Head of Climate Change of the council David Viner and Country Director Charles Nuttall announced the programme at a press conference at a city hotel yesterday. The council's Climate Champion Programme is an expanding network of 3,000 individual aged between 14 to 35 years who share an interest in finding sustainable solutions to tackle climate change in their communities whether they come from government, business, education, the media or civil society, they said. Fifteen winners of the competition will receive training and resources to implement innovative projects that inspire others to take action. They will have opportunities to present the views of young Bangladeshis to policy makers and world leaders at national and international meetings. Fourteen winners of the competition held last year will continue works with the British Council in different programmes in schools and research programmes as alumni of the climate champion programme, the officials said. Interested competitors have been requested to visit www.britishcouncil.org/Bangladesh for more information on the project. The deadline for submitting applications is May 29.
