Fire at high-rise commercial centre in Ctg

Staff Correspondent, Ctg
A fire broke out at a high-rise commercial building at Agrabad in the port city on Sunday night. A fire service man was injured trying to extinguish the blaze that started at an underconstruction shop on the second floor of the eight-storied Akhteruzzaman Centre at Agrabad-Badamtali intersection at about 10:15pm. The fire spread fast to several adjoining shops on the floor, damaging windowpanes, furniture and interior materials. Interior decoration work was going on in most of the shops, which were scheduled to open on June 4, sources said. The fire might have been caused by a cigarette dropped by the workers, fire fighters said. On receiving information, four fire fighting units from Agrabad Fire Station rushed there and managed to bring the blaze under control about two hours of struggle. Senior Station Manager Farid Ahmad Chowdhury was injured trying to douse the fire.
