Withdrawal of 516 more 'politically motivated' cases recommended
The government yesterday recommended withdrawal of 516 “politically motivated” cases which were filed during the tenure of the BNP-Jamaat alliance and the immediate-past caretaker governments.
State Minister for Law Quamrul Islam made the recommendation at the meeting of the national committee reviewing the “politically motivated” cases at the Secretariat.
A total of 977 cases were placed in the meeting with recommendation for withdrawal, said the minister, adding that ten cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission were also included.
So far the committee has recommended 4,627 cases for withdrawal considering those “politically motivated”.
Most of the cases recommended for withdrawal were lodged against the ruling party leaders and its front organization.
However, none against the opposition party leaders were recommended.
Recommendations for withdrawal of the cases including those filed against Awami League leaders HBM Iqbal, Haji Selim, Syed Khokon, AL lawmaker Habibur Rahman Molla, Jatiya Party leader Ruhul Amin Hawalader and Kazi Faroque of Proshika.
