India to train more BSTI staff

India will provide training to more officials of Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution (BSTI) with a view to improving their skills, Indian High Commissioner Rajeet Mitter said yesterday. He said this when he called on Industries Minister Dilip Barua at the latter's office, a press release said. The high commissioner said several BSTI officials have already received training under the hospitality of the Indian government in New Delhi and initiatives will be taken soon to bring more officials under the programme. Rajeet Mitter said the draft international standards ISO 26000, which provides guidelines on social responsibility is not suitable for developing countries as it may have adverse effect on their industries and exports. He called on for Bangladesh's support in international forums to defend the interest of developing countries regarding the new standards guidelines. Dilip Barua thanked the Indian government for its assistance in strengthening the BSTI and hoped full support in the present government's endeavours to modernise the institution to meet international standards.
