10 bombs seized in Jessore,Thakurgaon: 2 arrested

Police recovered 10 bombs from Sharsha upazila in Jessore and Thakurgaon town yesterday. A Correspondent in Benapole said, police early yesterday arrested two criminals and recovered nine powerful bombs and a sharp weapon from a village in Sharsha upazila of Jessore. Sharsha police station sub-inspector (SI) Asad said, acting on a tip-off, a police team raided the house of Arab Ali at Laxmanpur village and recovered the bombs digging earth adjacent to the house. Police also arrested Faruk Hossain alias Gangua and Alamgir Hossain in this connection. Arab Ali, however, managed to flee the scene sensing police presence. Police said the arrestees are accused of having hands in killing of Sharsha upazila Jubo League relief and social welfare secretary Ratan. Faruk Hossain is son of Daud Hossain of Sura village under Sharsha while Alamgir is son of Shamsur Rahman of Kagojpur village in Benapole. A case has been filed with Sharsha police station in this regard. In Thakurgaon, a bomb was found at a corner of the Public Works Department (PWD) office in the town yesterday afternoon. Police said at about 2:30am nightguard of the office Nur Mohammad saw a bomb like object at a corner of the office. He informed the matter to higher officials who informed police. Police rushed to the spot, recovered the bomb and put it in water in a bucket. Officer-in-charge of Thakurgaon police station Firoz Khan who received a 3-month training on bomb disposal told reporters that the object looked like a remote control bomb. One kilogram explosive can damage half of the PWD office building, he said. Superintendent of Police BM Harun or-Rashid and Assistant Superintendent of Police Shafiqul Islam visited the spot. The probable reason behind planting the bomb at the building could not be known immediately.
