Road crashes kill 4
At least four people were killed and 18 others injured in separate road accidents in Sirajganj, Gaibandha and Thakurgaon yesterday.
Our correspondent from Sirajganj reports: Two people were killed and three others injured when a truck hit a rickshaw van on the Sirajganj-Bogra Highway at Bhuiyan Gati in Sirajganj yesterday.
One of the deceased was identified as Sattendra Nath Das alias Pantha, 60, son of Surendra Nath Das of Ichaldi village. Identity of the other victim could not be known immediately.
The injured were taken to Sirajganj General Hospital and Bogra Mohammad Ali Hospital.
Police said the accident occurred when the driver of a loaded truck lost his control over the steering and crashed into rickshaw vans and a roadside shop at around 8:30pm.
The driver and helper of the truck, however, managed to escape.
Our correspondent from Gaibandha adds: Helper of a Azad Paribahan coach was killed and 15 others were injured when turned upside down and fell into a roadside ditch at Dholbhanga yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Mominur Rahman, 26, of village Goriya of Palashbari upazila.
The injured were rushed to Palashbari Health Complex.
Our correspondent from Thakurgaon says: A man was crushed to death by a passenger bus on the Thakurgaon-Panchagarh Highway at Muzabonni village at 11:30am yesterday.
The victim was identified as Hamidul Haque, 50, son of late Hakimuddin of Muzabonni.
Locals put up barricade on the road for an hour on the highway protesting the accident, leaving vehicles stranded on both the sides. The barricade was removed after police assured the protesters of arresting the killer driver.
