2 drug traders, 3 muggers arrested

Police arrested two drug traders and three snatchers in different raids in Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj districts on Thursday night and yesterday. Our Rajshahi correspondent adds: police arrested a Dhaka-based drug trader and his local agent from Rajshahi city yesterday. Drug trader Jamir Hossain, 30, of Dhaka was arrested from a room at Way Home hotel in the city, said Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rajpara Police Station. Hiding identity, Jamir boarded at the hotel for taking consignments of smuggled Indian Phensidyl, the OC added. Police said two other drug traders fled away sensing police raid, adding that they later arrested Habibur Rahman, 28, of Natore following the statement of Jamir. Our Chapainawabganj correspondent adds: Police arrested three snatchers at Balubagan in Chapainawa-bganj on Thursday night. The arrested are Saddam Hossain, son of late Angur, Shah Alam, son of Ismail and Sagor, son of Meraj Ali of Mosjid para in the district. Sub-Inspector of Sadar Police Station Rokonuzzaman said Rakib Ali of Laxmipur village under Baroghoria union was retuning home on his bicycle when three young men intercepted him in Balubagan area around 11:45pm. Rakib started shouting once they tried to take his mobile phone, bicycle and money when they stabbed him indiscriminately, leaving him seriously injured. Locals rushed to the spot hearing his cry for help and rescued him. Police later arrested the muggers. The victim filed a case with the police in this connection.
