History without Bangabandhu unrealistic, says Chief Justice

Comparing the movements of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from 1947 to 1971 with 'Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Chief Justice of Supreme Court Justice Mohammad Fazlul Karim said, "He [Bangabandhu] is the greatest bangali. Any history without him will be unrealistic." He said this at a function at the National Press Club in the city yesterday. At the programme, a total of 15 persons were given away 'Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Award 2009' yesterday for their outstanding contributions to different fields. Justice Mohammad Fazlul Karim handed over the awards among the winners and unveiled the cover of a book 'Hridoy-a Bangabandhu Bangladesh' written by Physician Siddeshwar Majumdar. Fazlul Karim said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman brought the independence for the country ignoring torture and repression on him during the liberation war in 1971. Bodher Kagoz Moslin organised the award giving ceremony where noted writer and researcher MRA Taha, secretary general of Bangladesh Medical Association Prof Md Sharfuddin Ahmed and editor of Moslin Arif Nazrul were present. Dr Md Habidur Rahman, register of the proposed Bangladesh Commonwealth University, presided over the programme. Prof Dr Abul Hasan Muhammad Sadek got award for education, Principal MM Nurnnabi for spread of education, Dr Rafiqul Islam for medical science, Advocate Md Anisur Rahman Dipu for law and human rights, Prof Col (Retd) Dr Abdul Hye for medicine, Syed Ahmad Ali Aziz for literature, Mohammad Abu Siddique for literature, Mohammad Jahangir Molla for lyrics, Siddeshwar Majumdar for child literature, Atiar Rahman for poetry, Md Mostafizur Rahman for engineering, Dr Bikarna Kumar Gosh for administration, Md Golam Mostafa Rana for Trade and Commerce and Md Kamaruzzaman for social service. Ramiz Uddin Ahmed Bhuiyan won posthumous award for his contribution to the liberation war.
