Authorities blamed for police attack

Former students of Chittagong University (CU) formed a human chain yesterday protesting police attack on students on August 2 this year. Around 200 former students also held a rally during the pro-gramme at the Central Shaheed Minar in Chittagong city. They also demanded cancellation of CU's fee hikes at the rally. Speakers condemned the police attack on students and blamed the CU administration for allowing law enforcers on the campus. They said the CU vice chancellor lost his guardianship following the incident. They demanded withdrawal of the cases filed against the students and release of arrestees to restore normalcy at the institution. Bangladesh College Teachers' Association Chittagong chapter General Secretary Uttam Chowdhury, Samaj Shamikkha Sangha Coordinator Shihab Chowdhury Biplob, Proma Abritty Sangha Convener Rashed Hasan and former student leaders also addressed the gathering. On July 26, general students waged a movement demanding cancellation of fee hikes that led to clashes between police and students on August 2. The CU was closed indefinitely flowing the clashes that left over 70 people injured.
