Sergeant, housewife attempt to suicide
A traffic sergeant attempted to commit suicide at Shahjalal International Airport last night.
Traffic Sergeant Wazed Mahmud shot himself in the head with his pistol at the traffic control room on the ground floor of the multi-storied parking lot at the airport around 10:40pm.
Airport police station officer-in-charge said they suspect Wazed attempted suicide using the pistol, which has been recovered from the spot.
Wazed was admitted at Apollo Hospital in Badda in critical condition.
In another incident, a housewife allegedly set herself on fire in an attempt to commit suicide at Bangshal in the capital following a row with her mother-in-law yesterday.
Afrin, 27, is now fighting for life at burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital with 90 percent burns over her body.
Her husband Mahbub Alam Rony tried to put the fire out and burnt 15 percent of his body.
Family sources said Afrin confined herself in a room and tried to burn herself following a disagreement with her mother-in-law over making Iftar.
