Programmes to observe National Mourning Day
Different organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the National Mourning Day today.
Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was killed along with most of his family members on this day in 1975.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) will hold a discussion at its Milon Hall at 3:30pm.
Bangla Academy will arrange a discussion to mark the day at Nazrul Mancha at 4:00pm.
Proshika, a centre for human development, will place wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi and at his grave in Tungipara early in the morning.
It will also arrange a painting exhibition for children at 10:00am and organise a discussion at 3:00pm at its head office.
Special programmes will also be held at its branches across the country.
On the occasion, different organisations and missions aboard will hold special programmes.
Meanwhile, leaders of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) at a discussion yesterday demanded the execution of death sentence to the Bangabandhu's killers absconding abroad, said a press release.
Audit Pratisthanik Command of Muktijoddha Samannoy Parishad and Bangaldesh Shikkok Samity (Bashar-Matiar) placed the demands in separate statements.
National University has chalked out a two-day long programme marking the day that include placing wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi and at his graveyard at Tungipara, discussion meeting and hoisting of national flag at half mast.
Bangladesh Rural Development Board will place wreath, organise discussions and distribute food and clothes among the destitute.
On the occasion, the Nazrul Institute will place wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman early in the morning and organise a discussion at the institute at 11:00am.
Besides the National Museum and the Nazrul Institute yesterday jointly organised a three-day long exhibition on 'Nazrul and Bangabandhu' at the National Museum.
Bangladesh University of Engineering Technology (Buet), Dhaka Club Ltd, Bangaldesh Krishi Bank, Bulbul Lalitakala Academy, Bangladesh Ansar-VDP force, Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation, Eden College, Kendrio Kachi-Kachar Mela, Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigosthi Central Committee, Dhaka Art Centre, Officers' Club, Dhaka; Bangladesh Development Bank Ltd (BDBL), Bangladesh National Awami Party (NAP) DPDC Sramik League and Bangladesh T&T Sramik-Karmochari Federal Union will also chalk out different programmes marking the day.
