Six killed, 38 injured in road accidents
Six people including a college student were killed and 38 others injured in separate road accidents in the districts of Narayanganj, Brahmanbaria, Gazipur, Satkhira and Gopalganj yesterday.
Our correspondent from Narayanganj reports: A college student was seriously injured when a bus hit him at Jalkuri under Siddhirganj of Narayanganj yesterday morning.
The injured was identified as Prosenjit Kumar, 17, son of late Swapan Chandra Baroi of Kutubpur Bou Baar area in Fatulla Pagla and a student of Haji Misir Ali Degree College.
Agitating college students and local people barricaded the Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road for one hour creating serious tailbacks. They also damaged three vehicles.
Later additional police came to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Principal of the college Humayun Kabir Bepari said Prosenjit was going to join a human chain to observe the National Mourning Day when a Dhaka bound bus hit him. Prosenjit received injuries on his head, chest and hands.
Prosenjit was first taken to a hospital in Khanpur but later was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
Siddhirganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Badrul Alam said police seized the bus and arrested its driver.
Our correspondent from Brahmanbaria reports: A woman was killed in a road accident at Kharial village under Ashuganj upazila of the district yesterday night.
She was identified as Ayesha Begum, 45, of Bahadurpur village of the district.
Police sources said Ayesha was crossing the DhakaSylhet Highway when a Dhaka bound microbus ran over her, killing her on the spot.
The body was sent to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
A case was filed at Ashuganj Police Station in this connection.
UNB from Gazipur reports: Two people were killed and 18 others injured in separate road accidents yesterday morning.
Police said Raju Mia, 22, died on the spot and nine others were injured as a leguna and another truck collided at Kodda on Gazipur-Tangail Highway.
The injured were admitted to Sadar Hospital where another unidentified man, aged about 40, died.
In another incident, two buses collided in National Park area on Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway, leaving 10 people injured.
UNB from Satkhira reports: A man riding on a motorcycle was killed in a road accident at Patkelghata in Tala upazila yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Pratap Ghosh, 37, son of Sridham Ghosh of Surulia village of the same upazila.
Police said the accident occurred at about 11:00am when a pick-up van hit his motorcycle on Satkhira-Khulna Highway while he was going to Satkhira, leaving him critically injured.
He later died on way to Sadar Hospital.
The driver along with his van fled following the accident.
BSS adds from Gopalganj: One person was killed and 20 others were injured in a road accident at Gazaria in Muksudpur yesterday.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately said police.
Police said the accident took place when a driver of a Dhaka bound bus lost control over the steering and fell into a road side ditch on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway leaving one killed and 20 injured.
Among the injured, Tuhin, 30, Amit, 35, Jalil, 45, and Nawabab, 30, were rushed to the Faridpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition. Being informed, police sent the body to Muksudpur Health Complex for autopsy.
A case was filed with concerned police station in this connection.
