Chinese team due tomorrow

An 18-member Chinese delegation is due in Dhaka tomorrow on a weeklong visit to witness different development, micro-credit, and poverty alleviation programmes, Bangladesh foreign ministry officials said yesterday. Fan Xiaojian, head of the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development, also member of the China State Council, will lead the delegation. The visitors will observe mainly the social enterprises, activities of local governments, and various poverty alleviation and agricultural development programmes launched by government and non-government organisations. They are also keen to see micro-credit related and grass roots level development programmes of Grameen Bank and Brac. Xiaojian, who holds the rank and status of a cabinet minister, and the rest of the delegation will meet Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, and LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Syed Ashraful Islam, said the foreign ministry officials. They are also expected to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
