Three security officials of Chittagong Power Development Board (PDB) were suspended yesterday on charge of stealing circuit-breakers from its store. They are Assistant Director (Security) ABM Abdul Halim and Security Inspectors Abdul Motaleb and Abul Kalam Azad. PDB sources said the three officials along with a contactor Mohammad Ashraf allegedly stole four circuit-breakers, each worth around Tk 5 lakh, from the PDB store at Agrabad on August 12 and in April this year. On information, PDB Agrabad Division Executive Engineer Makbul Hossain found that the circuit-breakers have been taken from the store without any permission from its chief engineer. “Following this, the authorities sent a written statement to the PDB head office and the board suspended them in a letter that reached Chittagong today [Wednesday],” said Assistant Director (Public Relations) Mohammad Moniruzzaman. Executive Engineer Mokbul Hossain also filed a case with the Double-Mooring Police Station accusing contactor Mohammad Ashraf in this connection, he said. Contacted, Abdul Halim said he was never involved in such incident and this is a clear conspiracy against him since he changed a number of security guards from the store earlier.
