18 shops fined Tk 2.50 lakh

Eighteen shop owners were fined Tk 2.50 lakh in a drive for selling essential commodities at higher prices than the government rate yesterday. Three teams from the Commerce Ministry, directorate of national consumer rights protection (DNCRP) and law enforcement agencies launched the drive at Shantinagar Kitchen Market, Mohammadpur Town Hall and Mohammadpur Krishi Market and realised the money. In Mohammadpur Town Hall, Rabbi Store was fined Tk 30,000 whil Mamoni Varieties Store Tk 25,000, Nasima General Store Tk 30,000 and Haque Traders Tk 25,000 for selling soyabean oil at higher prices. They fined a shop Tk 20,000 for selling beef at higher price, Jessore Traders and Shakil Departmental Store Tk 25,000 each for not keeping the price list of commodities.
