MDG, Self-sufficiency in Food
'Bangladesh model among LDCs'
Achieving self-sufficiency in food and advancing towards implementation of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) has made it possible for Bangladesh to be a model among least developing countries.
"Bangladesh has set a rare example among least developing countries in achieving self-sufficiency in food," said Permanent Observer of Partners in Population and Development (PPD) to the United Nations Sethuramiah L Rao.
He said this at a courtesy call on Bangladesh's Permanent Representative to the United Nations AK Abdul Momen at the permanent mission office in New York.
"As a small country with a population of 160 million alongside natural disasters, Bangladesh is advancing towards implementing the MDGs," he added.
Rao said with these achievements Bangladesh emerged as a model among developing countries that would be highlighted at the 4th conference of the developing countries in Istanbul scheduled for May next year.
Momen apprised Rao, who was involved with United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UFPA) for three decades, of Bangladesh prime minister's "Vision 2021" and said girls are advancing forwards and registering more in the primary schools than boys.
