Amend constitution on basis of present context
Says shipping minister
Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan stressed the need for amendment to the constitution on the basis of present perspective and circumstance of the country.
It is not possible to restore the '72 constitution completely because it has been 38 years of the nation since that constitution was passed. So its construction should be amended on the basis of present perspective, he said.
The minister made the comment while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar titled 'Bangabandhu's Bangladesh: Formation of state and its background' organised by Proshika, a centre for human development, at the city's Cirdap auditorium yesterday, said a press release.
He strongly criticised the previous government for distorting history, saying that the evil forces would not get any scope for doing so again.
Presenting the keynote paper Bangla Academy Director General Shamsuzzaman Khan said it would not be possible to establish a non-communal democratic country without trying war criminals.
Proshika Chief Executive Mahbub-Ul-Karim presided over the seminar while the daily Bhorer Kagoj Editor Shamol Dutta moderated it.
