Road crashes kill 6, injure 50

At least six people were killed and 50 others injured in separate road accidents in Mymensingh and Sirajganj yesterday. Our correspondent from Mymensingh reports: Four people were killed and 40 others injured in a head-on collision between two buses on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Ukilbari of Bailor in Trishal upazila yesterday. One of the deceased was identified as Noor Mohammad, 40, son of Md Almas Ali of Nakla of Sherpur district. Identity of others could not be known immediately. The accident occurred when a Sherpur-bound Dreamland Service's bus collided head-on with another bus coming from the opposite direction at around 1:15pm, killing Noor, driver of the Dreamland bus, and a 10-year-old boy on the spot. Of the injured, 30 were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) where two others died. Of the injured, condition of five was stated to be critical. Police sent the bodies to the MMCH morgue for autopsy. A correspondent from Sirajganj adds: At least two people were killed and 10 others injured in a road accident on Hitikumrul-Bonpara highway on Goza Bridge No-2 under Hatikumrul police station here yesterday. One of the dead was identified as Golam Mostafa, 37, of Bashbaria village under Tarash upazila. Identity of the other deceased could not be known immediately. Police said the accident occurred at around 2:00pm when a Rajshahi-bound passenger bus of Tamim Paribahan from Dhaka collided head-on with a car coming from the opposite direction, leaving Mostafa and an unidentified person dead on the spot and 10 others injured. Police recovered the body and sent the injured to hospital. Police seized both the vehicles.
