DCC elections after Eid
Says poll commissioner
The Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) elections will be held at a convenient time in between Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha, said Election Commissioner M Sohul Hussain yesterday.
Talking to reporters at his office, the election commissioner also said elections to the union parishads and municipalities would be held between December and January. Earlier, he said the elections would be held around November-December.
In this regard, he said the time period was extended by a month as annual final examinations and hajj would be held during this session (Nov-Dec).
The election commissioner mentioned that there are some 79 union parishads where elections have not been held for 10 years. Local body polls can likely be held when ordinances are promulgated, he added.
Sohul Hussain also revealed that vetting procedure of the amended union parishad and municipal acts have already been completed and the Ministry of Local Government has also recommended the commission to take necessary preparations for the local body elections.
