Ban on rallies, procession in city

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) imposed a ban on holding of any kind of meeting, rally, demonstration and procession on the important roads in the city without permission. A press release, signed by DMP Commissioner AKM Shahidul Haque yesterday, said the meetings, rallies, demonstrations and processions on the roads intensify traffic jams causing more sufferings to the people. He said the ban has been imposed to reduce public sufferings as well as to ensure public security and peace during the month of Ramadan. The police commissioner imposed the ban under section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance-III/76 and it will remain effective since August 23 to until further order.
