Ctg building owner fined Tk 2 lakh for hill cutting
Department of Environment (DoE) yesterday fined Tk 2 lakh to a building owner for cutting hills during construction at West Khulshi area in the city.
DoE Director (Enforcement) Munir Chowdhury fined Nurunnabi Bhuiyan for cutting a portion of a hill 40-feet high to construct a one-story building.
The owner not only cut the hill but also destroyed beauty and esthetic settings of nature, said Munir Chowdhury. The owner was asked to take steps to protect the leveled hill and stop all sorts of construction there, he said.
Mentionable, this is the first financial penalty awarded to any person for illegally cutting hills in the country.
