6 snatchers arrested with firearms in Chittagong
Six snatchers were arrested with two firearms at Double-Mooring, Shulakbahar, and Halishahar in the port city yesterday.
A team led by Assistant Commissioner Hasan Chowdhury of detective branch raided a bachelor house at Supariwala Para of Double-Mooring, and arrested four snatchers -- Motaleb, 25, Rakib, 24, Hafiz Mian, 25, and Saiful Islam, 25.
The muggers were distributing shares of booty before their arrest.
AC Hasan said they seized a riffle, a light gun, five rounds of bullets, two machetes, seven mobile phones, an ATM card, a national identity card, and a bank cheque from the arrestees.
The gang also snatched the mobile phone, wristwatch, and wallet of Tingku Chakrabartya, a teacher of Chittagong City Corporation Ayurvedik College, at Jamal Khan area, Hasan added.
In another drive, Pachlishe police arrested two men -- Nurul Islam, 30, at Shulakbahar and Mohammad Shafiq, 28, at Halishahar -- in connection with snatching Tk 6 lakh from a man named Mohammad Shahjahan at Shulakbahar on August 04.
