Six held with fake notes in Ctg
Police arrested six people, five of them women, with fake notes worth Tk 48,500 at Kunjachhaya Ananda Bazar in the port city on Monday.
Officer-in-charge Abdus Sabur of Bayezid Police Station led a raid in disguise of buyers and made the arrests, also seizing the forge notes.
The arrestees belong to a well-organised group of forgers ready to release fake notes in Dhaka and Chittagong city ahead of the Eid, said the OC.
''The group was releasing the fake notes using poor women, who offered us notes of Tk 1,000 for Tk 800, and Tk 500 for Tk 400, when we approached them as buyers,'' added the OC.
Police seized 31 fake notes of Tk 1,000; 26 notes of Tk 500; and 45 notes of Tk 100 from them.
Mobashwera alias Tania, 55, Shahnaz Akter alias Shanu, 19, Tahera, 14, Fatema Begum, 30 hail from Chandpur while Swapna Begum, 28, and her husband Md Harun, 42, from Laxmipur.
OC Sabur said Shanu and Fatema had been arrested with fake notes on July 14 this year, but they resumed the business after getting bail. Drive to arrest the remaining member of the group is going on, he added.
