No extortionist to be spared: Sahara
Home Minister Advocate Sahara Khatun yesterday said none would be spared from the law if get involved in extortion in any markets during the Eid-ul-Fitr.
“The police and the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) officials have already been instructed to take tough action against the extortionists if they are members of the ruling party,” she said while talking to journalists at the North Tower in Uttara after visiting different city markets and shopping malls.
Replying to a question about Ibrahim murder, she said anybody found guilty in the case, he may be a lawmaker or law breaker, would be brought to book without any hesitation.
Sahara told journalists that she did not receive any complaint of extortion from any market or shopping complex and the businessmen rather told her that they are doing their business without any incidents of extortion during the last two years.
She said she would go personally without protocol and police to any place if came to know any incident of extortion during the Eid.
Answering to a question on a recent threat to the International War Crimes Tribunal by a quarter, the home minister said the issue is now under investigation, stern action would be taken against the quarter after the investigation if found the allegation is genuine.
She visited the Farm View Super Market at Farmgate and talked to the shopkeepers. She later went to Mirpur area and visited specialised shop Arannya and Swadhin Bangla Super Market.
She also visited Pink City Sopping Complex, Shoppers World and Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) Market and talked to the shopkeepers and visiting customers. She also wanted to know the over all law and order of the city during the Eid-ul-Fitr.
The minister went to Uttara and visited Raj Luxmi Complex, Amir Complex, Rajuk Karmachari Commercial Complex and North Tower and talked to local businessmen and visiting customers. She also exchanged views with local leaders and workers of Awami League at that time.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hassan Mahmud Khandkar, Additional IGP of the Special Branch (SB) Md Javed Patwari, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner AKM Shahidul Haque and Acting Director General (DG) of Rab Md Mokhlesur Rahman, accompanied the minister during the visit.
