RMG troublemakers to face punitive action
Punitive action will be taken against any troublemakers who try to create chaos in the garments sector in the name of wage and bonus ahead of Eid.
The police alongside Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) will be on alert to control the law and order situation during Eid.
The decision was taken at a meeting on the overall law and order situation, including the garment sector, ahead of Eid held at the Police Headquarters yesterday.
Chaired by newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hasan Mahmud Khondoker, the meeting was also attended by Director General of Rab Mukhlesur Rahman and senior police officers.
Official sources said the meeting requested the garments owners and leaders of BGMEA and BKMEA to pay wages and Eid bonuses to their employees before Eid.
The meeting decided to arrange sufficient police and Rab patrols in areas where the garment factories are located. Besides, intelligence surveillance will be strengthened in those areas.
“Rapid action will be taken against those who try to create any kind of chaos,” said an official at the meeting.
The meeting also decided to intensify police security to prevent any kind of extortion as well as to ensure security of shopping malls and homebound Eid holidaymakers.
Adequate number of police will also be deployed to reduce traffic jams at roads.
Besides, district police will also be performing its duties alongside highway police.
Rab and police will also remain alert on the country's rivers to make sure ferries and water vessels do not carry excess passengers.
