48 shanties gutted in city slum fire

Staff Correspondent
Fourty-eight shanties were gutted in a devastating fire that broke out in a slum at Tali Office Goli in the city's Hazaribagh last night. Fire Service and Civil Defence officials said the fire broke out at Zakir's Bosti at around 10:00pm. Five units of fire fighters put out the fire after an hour of their joint efforts. But in the meantime, the fire gutted 48 shanties made of wood, bamboo and tin and their valuables, leaving around 50 families homeless. Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Siraj said the fire might have originated from a kerosene lamp as the slum caught fire during loadshedding. Siraj said as the fire engulfed the entire slum in moments, the affected people could not save their valuables.
