Two policemen jailed, acquitted
A court here yesterday sentenced two policemen to two days in jail for not submitting the case documents in front of the court in connection to a case and later dismissed them from the charge.
The accused are Officer-in-Charge (OC) Gazi Ruhul Imam and Sub-Inspector (SI) Monjurul Haque.
Court sources said there was no name mentioned in the documents of a theft case with Tongi Police Station. Police had arrested two people in this connection.
The court asked the alleged policemen to submit the case documents in front of the court on September 5 as the lawyer of the arrestees appealed for a hearing.
The two police officials yesterday submitted the documents without any probe report.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Sheikh Tarik Ijaj granted bail to the prisoners and sentenced two days imprisonment to the police officials.
On information, the two policemen rushed to the court and apealed to the court to review the case.
On reviewing the case, the court acquitted the policemen from two days imprisonment.
