Ibrahim murder
No scope to divert probe
State minister tells journos
The government has no intention to divert the investigation into the Jubo League leader Ibrahim's murder to a different angle, said State Minister for Home Shamsul Haque Tuku.
Ibrahim was killed by a bullet triggered from Awami League lawmaker Nurunnabi Chowdhury Shaon's licensed pistol in the Shangsad Bhaban area on August 13.
“There is no scope to divert the case to a different angle. The government has no intention in this regard,” he said replying to a question after an inter-ministerial meeting on the withdrawal of political harassment cases at the home ministry with State Minister for Law Qamrul Islam in the chair.
Action will be taken in accordance with the law of the land, Tuku said. Re-investigations are being carried out in a number of cases, which were diverted in different angles in the past, he added.
Replying to a question, Qamrul said according to the Arms Act, one cannot use another's licensed firearm.
Lawmaker Shaon is guilty according to the Arms Act as Ibrahim was killed by a bullet triggered from his licensed pistol.
Referring to the outcome of yesterday's meeting, Qamrul said after reviewing 713 cases, including 30 ACC cases, the meeting recommended withdrawing 178 of those cases, including 7 under the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
A total of 267 cases were denied withdrawal and 367 others were asked to be placed in the next meeting after being scrutinised for consideration of withdrawal, he said.
Qamrul said with yesterday's withdrawal, so far 6,216 cases have been withdrawn out of 9,802. More 3,000 cases are awaiting for reviewing of withdrawal.
