Nat'l health policy a must for healthcare to all
Speakers at a participatory workshop in Rajshahi city yesterday emphasised the need for a compact national health policy for ensuring necessary health services to all, especially the poor and underprivileged.
They said all authorities and individuals concerned should work together for preparing a pro-people health policy.
The divisional workshop, titled ''National Health Policy 2010'', was organised by the Directorate General of Health at Rajshahi Medical College (RMC) conference hall.
The workshop aims to make sure that members of all quarters participate in the policy-making procedure.
Associate Professor Dr Sayedur Rahman of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University presented the draft of the policy and gave its overview.
Sayedur, also member of National Health Policy Finalisation Committee, said the policy focuses on economic and social emancipation through sustainable health, nutrition, and family welfare of the mass, especially the poor, marginalised, and vulnerable communities.
RMC Principal Prof Dr ABM Abdul Hannan in his welcome speech invited suggestions from the participants to make the health policy acceptable to all.
Prof Dr Mahmud Hassan, president of Bangladesh Medical Association, addressed the opening session as the chief guest while Divisional Director of Health Dr Nurul Amin chaired the workshop.
Around 120 persons comprising doctors, government and non- government development activists, professionals and media workers from eight districts of the region attended the workshop.
Prof Dr Dayem Uddin and Prof Dr Mohibul Hassan of RMC addressed the closing ceremony.
Prof Dr Sifayetullah, convener of the policy finalisation committee and director of Medical Education and Health Manpower Development; Prof Dr Habib-E-Millat, director of Bangladesh Medical Research Council; Brigadier General Dr Abdul Latif, director of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital; and Naosher Ali, commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, spoke as special guests.
