An Islami Chhatra Shibir activist was arrested from near the Awami League office at Kumarpara in Rajshahi city on Sunday night. Arrestee Arafat Hossain Eti, 28, of Dharampur in the city, is a weapon and explosive expert of Jamaat-e-Islami backed student organisation Shibir, police said. Eti is an accused in more than three cases filed in connection with Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activist Faruk Hossain murder, Rajshahi University violence and attack on police on the campus, police added. Shahidul Islam, AL general secretary of Rajshahi ward No-30, found Eti in front of the party office at about 10:30pm and asked him the reason of his presence as he knew Eti as a Shibir member. Eti replied that he wanted to join AL, which Shahid refused. At one stage, Shahid caught him and informed police. Boalia police arrested Eti from the spot and handed him over to Motihar Police Station as the cases were filed with the police station. Eti, who was on bail in Faruk murder case, is on most wanted list of local police, said Sohel Rana, second officer of Motihar Police Station. “He (Eti) was found with firearms several times on the RU campus. He was also involved with the arson attack on a police camp at RU in 2009,” he added.
