10 broad gauge locomotives get Ecnec nod

10 dev projects worth Tk 1,993 crore approved

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) on Thursday approved 10 development projects involving Tk 1993 crore that includes procurement of 10 broad gauge locomotive for Bangladesh Railway. The projects were approved at a meeting of the Ecnec at the NEC conference room with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair. Of the total project costs, the government will provide Tk 1263 crore while Tk 730 crore will be project aid. The approved projects are -- 10 broad gauge (BG) diesel electric (DE) locomotive procurement project of Roads and Railway Division, 125 BG passenger coach procurement project for Bangladesh Railway, 50 MG flat Wagon (BFCT) for carrying containers and 5 MG break van with air break procurement project of Roads and Railway Division, 180 BG boggy oil tank wagon and 6 BG bogie break van procurement project for Bangladesh Railway, construction of overpass over Jurain rail crossing under Roads & Railway Division, Sylhet City Corporation Infrastructural development and extension project un Besides, the approved projects also include Rural Electrification Extension Project (Rajshahi and Rangpur Division - Phase I) and Rural Electrification Extension Project (Barisal Division - Phase 1 Project under the Power Division, Replacement of Power Turbines, Diesel Generators and Boiler of Different Sugar Mills project under Industries Ministry, and Repair of inoperative deep tube wells of BADC for irrigation under Agriculture Ministry.der the Local Government Department. Planning Minister Air Vice Marshal (retd) AK Khandaker, Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury, Labour Minister Engr Khandaker Mosharref Hossain, Water Resources Minister Ramesh Chandra Sen, Commerce Minister Faruq Khan, Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain, Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan, Textiles and Jute Minister Abdul Latif Siddiqi, PM's advisers HT Imam, Dr Moshiur Rahman, Dr Alauddin Ahmed and Dr Towfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, State Minister for LGRD Jahangir Kabir Nanak, and State Minister for Power, Energy & Mineral Resources Brig (retd) Enamul Haque attended the meeting. Cabinet Secretary, Planning Secretary, members of Planning Commission, and secretaries of the concerned Ministries and senior officials were, among others, present.
