Help eradicate drugs, militancy: Sahara

Home Minister Sahara Khatun sought support of the print and electronic media to further improve the law and order situation by eradicating drugs, terrorism and militancy from the country. She sought the media support at a press briefing after presiding over a post-Eid get-together meeting with officials and employees of the Home Ministry yesterday. State Minister for Home Affairs Adv Shamsul Haq Tuku also attended the meeting. Mentioning that the people celebrated the Eid-ul-Fitr in exceptionally peaceful manner this year, Sahara said the law and order situation was very good across the country as officials concerned properly performed their duties. “A monitoring cell led by Additional Secretary Iqbal Khan Chowdhury was formed and it maintained communications with authorities concerned for 24 hours,” she said. The home minister said there was no incident of hijacking, extortion or deterioration of law and order during the Eid vacation. Sahara lamented that she visited various markets and malls before the Eid and found that both buyers and sellers did their shopping and businesses in festive mood without any allegation of harassments. Both Sahara and Tuku exchanged Eid greetings with journalists and officials attended the briefing and expressed satisfaction over the prevailing situation. Tuku said the home ministry along with the government felt highly contented for successfully celebration of the Eid in peaceful atmosphere. “We've been able to contain criminals,” he said. He assured that the government would try to ensure safety for each citizen for every single moment.
