Hearing on charge framing adjourned till Nov 14

A Dhaka court yesterday adjourned the hearing on charge framing against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, her elder son Tarique Rahman and four others in connection with Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case till November 14. Judge Muzammel Hossain of the Special Judge's Court-3 passed the order following a time petition on behalf of the accused. The Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case on July 3, 2008 with Ramna Police Station in connection with embezzlement of over Tk 2.10 crore through formation of the Zia Orphanage Trust. In the petition their counsels said Khaleda and her elder son Tarique, who is receiving treatment abroad, could not appear before the court because of illness. Advocate Sanaullah Miah represented Tarique in the court. Two other accused Sharfuddin Ahmed and former BNP lawmaker Kazi Saleemul Haq alias Econo Kamal were also absent from the court as they went abroad. And the other two, Dr Kamal Uddin Siddiqui and Mominur Rahman, remain absconding since the filing of the case. The Commission pressed corruption charges against Khaleda, Tarique and four others on August 5, last year.
