MoU for media campaign on A2I outcome
National news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Access to Information (A2I) Programme under the prime minister's office (PMO) to supplement the government's digitalisation campaign.
Managing Director and Chief Editor of BSS Ihsanul Karim and National Project Director of A2I Programme Mohammad Nazrul Islam Khan signed the MoU at the PMO.
People's Perspective Specialist of A2I Programme Naimuzzaman Khan Mukta and Chief Reporter of BSS Ajit Kumar Sarkar were present on the occasion.
“We expect the BSS engagement in the A2I campaign will boost the government efforts to promote the use of ICT for the ordinary rural people," said A2I National Project Director Nazrul Islam Khan.
"It is a thrust programme of the government, which is being overseen personally by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself,” he added in a brief statement after the signing of the deal.
Karim said the national news agency would take special steps under the MoU to create mass awareness about Digital Bangladesh programme envisioned by the prime minister.
It would also spread word on various outcomes relating to e-governance and information services under A2I programme he added.
“BSS will disseminate the outcome of the A2I activities at the grassroots in rural areas,” he added.
Other objectives of the programme include strengthening the capacity of BSS as well as its clients and ensuring the visibility of A2I programme among larger audiences.
Under the programme, the journalists from national and regional level newspapers, news agencies and electronic media will be oriented about the diversified activities of A2I so they can effectively disseminate the outcome of the programme.
They will be provided fellowship for reports highlighting and reviewing A2I activities undertaken by different ministries.
They will also be invited to participate in the field visits to cover the achievements, held at grassroots level. The BSS will provide necessary technical support to group of journalists for managing news worthy items.
National award for journalists will be introduced for best reporting/feature writing highlighting 'Digital Bangla'.
There will be two categories--one for print media and another for electronic media. Three awards will be given for each category.
