Community primary school teachers yesterday called for nationalisation of their services and the same facilities enjoyed by government primary school teachers. They said this at a human chain programme titled "Nationalisation of community primary schools" organised by Bangladesh Community Primary Teacher Association (BCPTA) in front of National Press Club. Over 100 teachers of community primary schools from the different parts of the country formed the human chain. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the prime minister's office. "We provide services to students following the same curriculum and rules of government like government primary school teachers. Our qualifications are also similar but we do not get facilities like them," said president of BCPTA Habibul Ahsan Bablu. Teachers of community primary school now get Tk 4,900 to Tk 4,700, like other government registered government and non-government primary school teachers. Habibul Ahsan said registered primary school teachers enjoyed other benefits like home, medical and festival allowances. But our demands have been neglected over a long period, he added. "The government will have to spend Tk 12 crore per year to meet the allowance. A file on the matter is stuck at the finance ministry. If it is okayed by the ministry, there will be no obstacle to get the allowance", he claimed. Secretary General of BCPTA Hafizur Rahman said teachers would be motivated and pay more attention to students if the government fulfilled the demands. There are 3,778 community primary schools in the country where about 10,000 teachers work.
