Criminals beat up members of a family in Gazipur
Members of a family were allegedly beaten up by a group of local criminals over land grabbing in Gazipur district yesterday.
Frances Rozario and his family intercepted the hooligans from grabbing their land at Noipara in Pubail union and were attacked, and later threatened with death.
Son of Francis, Swapan Rozario, said a group of 30-40 people led by local land brokers Shubhash Chandra Hawalader, Thakur Das, Shadhon Chandra Mondol and Kabir Hossain attacked their house, vandalised it and beat them up with bamboo sticks around 9:00am.
Swapan filed a general diary (GD) with Joydevpur Police Station, stating that the group has been threatening to forcefully grab their 324 decimal lands in Kotebadhon area ignoring a court order.
Swapan said Frances' brother Jacob Rozario gave the land to three brothers of their family in 1962, and left for India.
He said the group yesterday threatened to kill and harass them by filing false cases if they go to their land. "We have been passing days with insecurity".
Shubhash Chandra, one of the alleged brokers, could not be reached for comments despite several attempts.
