Muggers stab man to death in Keraniganj
Muggers stabbed a mechanic to death at Khejur Bagh under Dakkhin Keraniganj in the outskirts of Dhaka city early yesterday. One of the muggers was also arrested right after the incident.
The deceased Masud, 26, is a resident of the area and employee of an electronics shop, Ma Cabinet and Electronics at Kumartuli.
Masud was returning home with the shop owner Sumon and two of his friends by two rickshaws at around 12:30am.
When they crossed the river at Sadarghat area, a gang of 10 to 12 muggers stopped their rickshaws and snatched four mobile phones and money from the four.
Masud caught hold of a mugger and raised an alarm shouting "robber".
One of the snatchers stabbed Masud several times on the chest and back.
On hearing their cries, local people came and chased the muggers. They managed to catch one of them Alamgir, 25, beat him and handed him over to Dakkhin Keraniganj Police Station.
Injured Masud was taken to Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital where attending doctors declared him dead at around 2:30am.
