3 warships to be bought for navy soon

The government will procure three modern warships from British Royal Navy soon as part of its initiative to modernise the Bangladesh Navy. Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Zahir Uddin Ahmed apprised President Zillur Rahman of the plan by calling on him at Bangabhaban in the city yesterday. During the meeting, the naval chief hoped that commissioning of the three ships would be held in the last week of November next. Naval chief said Bangladesh Navy would advance towards modernisation, if the ongoing development programmes, taken by the present government, are implemented properly. He also informed president that he would visit the UK, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia to discuss conducting training programmes for the officers and mariners of Bangladesh Navy. Zillur expressed his satisfaction over the decision of procuring three modern warships from Royal Navy. He laid emphasis on upgrading Bangladesh Navy like other naval forces of the developed countries through increasing its technology based skill and capacity. Concerned secretaries of the president's office were present on the occasion.
