DMP ban on carrying arms, rally around JS

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) yesterday imposed a restriction on carrying firearms, explosives and other harmful objects as well as any kind of gathering, procession, rally and demonstrations around Sangsad Bhaban to ensure smooth functioning of the sixth session of the 9th parliament. The 6th Session will begin this afternoon. The restrictions will take effect from 12:00am last night (Sunday night) until the conclusion of the 6th session of parliament, said the DMP announcement yesterday. DMP Commissioner AKM Shahidul Haq imposed the restrictions under section 28 and 29 of Police Ordinance 1976 for ensuring "peace and discipline" in and around the parliament house in order that the 6th session of the current parliament remains "uninterrupted". The restricted areas are: Mahakhali crossing of Mymensingh Road to Bangla Motor crossing, western part of Bangla Motor Link road to Saarc fountain on Sonargaon road, eastern part of Panthapath to Farmgate via Green Road link road, Shyamali crossing of Mirpur road to Dhanmondi 16 (old 27) link road, Rokeya Sarani link road to Bijoy Sarani Parjatan crossing via old 9th division (airplane) crossing, eastern part of Indira road to Manik Miah Avenue western part and restricted area of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban and all the roads and lanes in the area.
