4 cops face charges for implicating BCL leader
Criminal Investigation Department accused four police personnel in a probe report yesterday, for falsely implicating and torturing a Dhaka University student in connection with attempt to kill Prof Humayun Azad.
Former officer-in-charge Mahbubur Rahman of Ramna Police Station, Sub-inspectors Rezaul Karim and Naser Ali, and Sergeant Anwar Hossain face the charges.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan Talukder fixed today for hearing on the investigation report submitted before him by Inspector Ehsan, according to CID sources.
DU student Abu Abbas Bhuiyan, also a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League, was arrested following a militant attack on Prof Azad on February 27, 2004.
Four years into the incident, Abbas filed a case with the court accusing detained former BNP minister Lutfozzaman Babar, and the four policemen for implicating him with false charge and torturing him.
