Media spread anthrax panic
Alleges minister
Fisheries and Livestock Minister Abdul Latif Biswas yesterday in parliament accused media of creating panic among people about anthrax.
“Media spread panic countrywide through publishing and broadcasting false news of anthrax. They are even telling that one might be affected by anthrax if he drinks milk,” the minister said in a statement.
He said media also reported that sparrows and ducks are dieing of anthrax, which is "totally false."
The minister urged media to play a positive role so that people are not panicked and can celebrate upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
The minister urged the countrymen not to be panicked and to start eating beef from now as he claimed that the anthrax is under control. He called upon all to buy cattle without any hesitation for upcoming Eid festival.
“It is not true that one must be affected by anthrax virus for eating beef,” he said.
Latif claimed that only 46 cows out of around six crore cattle were affected so far by anthrax virus, which cannot be considered as epidemic.
He said no cattle was affected by anthrax since September 18.
The minister described the government's all out measures to tackle the disease. “The situation is now under control for the government's time befitting measures,” he claimed.
