3 killed, 12 injured in road accidents
Three people, including a schoolboy, were killed and 12 others injured in separate road accidents in Dinajpur, Satkhira and Jhenaidah districts yesterday.
Our Dinajpur Corres-pondent reports: A schoolboy was killed and at least 10 people were injured in two road accidents in Biral and Birampur upazilas of the district yesterday.
The dead was identified as Dhananjoy Sarker, 12, son Daku Chandra Sarker of Jhoptola village of Biral upazila was a student of Biral Pilot High School.
Police said a Dinajpur-bound bus hit Dhananjoy from behind at Haljar village while he was returning home on a bicycle, leaving him injured critically.
Later villagers rushed him to Biral Upazila Health Complex where he died. After the accident, police seized the bus but the driver of the bus and his helper managed to escape.
In another incident, At least 10 people were injured in a road accident on Dinajpur-Dhaka Highway under Birampur upazila yesterday morning.
Of them, condition of two persons--helper of the driver Md. Shajahan and another unidentified person--was stated to be critical at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital.
Police quoting witnesses said a Dinajpur-bound bus collided head-on with a bricks laden tractor at Takatpur village, leaving ten people injured.
Our Satkhira Correspondent adds: An NGO staff was killed and two others were injured in an accident on Satkhira-Assassuni Road near Sharagachhi village in Sadar Upazila yesterday evening.
The dead was identified as Rabiul Islam, 32, son of Abdul Kader of Raghunathpur village in Jhhikargachha upazila under Jessore district.
The victim was a staff of Grameen Shakti at Satkhira office.
NGO staff--Sumon Mondalson, son of Natabar Mondal of Assassuni upazila, and Amjad Hossian --were admitted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital in critical condition.
Sumon Mondal later was shifted to Khulna 250-bed Hospital as his condition deteriorated, hospital sources said.
Quoting local people, police said the victims while coming to Satkhira after attending a meeting at Budhhata in Assassuni upazila headquarters by riding a motorbike and reached the place at about 7:30pm, a speeding pick up van hit them, leaving Rabiul died on the spot and two others injured.
Our Correspondent from Jhenidah reports: A farmer was killed in a road crash at Khalishpur bazaar in Moheshpur upazila yesterday noon.
The deceased was identified as Yousuf Ali, 45, son of Akbar Ali of Bakandia village of the upazila.
Officer-in-Charge Mamunur Rashid of Moheshpur Police Station said at noon Yousuf Ali was returning home from the bazaar when a Kaliganj-bound bus hit him, leaving him injured. He was rushed to the Upazila Health Complex where he succumbed to injuries.
