DAB slams PM's adviser for his remark on recruitment

The Doctors Association of Bangladesh yesterday criticised the prime minister's health adviser for his recent remark that nobody without Awami League affiliation will be appointed as health worker to 13,350 posts at the community clinics. PM adviser Dr Syed Modasser made a speech at Gopalganj Sadar Hospital conference room on Monday and later admitted to his comment. A pro-BNP doctors' organisation, DAB termed the comment a matter of regret for the nation in a joint statement. DAB President Prof Dr AKM Azizul Haque and Secretary General Prof Dr AZM Zahid Hossain alleged that the health sector has plunged into chaos as ineligible and partisan people are being appointed to important posts. Dr Zahid Hossain, who signed the statement, said a crisis is prevailing also in the medical education sector, which resulted from recruitment of partisan and incompetent physicians and transfer of skilled and meritorious ones. According to the DAB leaders, the government has made ad hoc appointments of 3,500 physicians who have either party identity or money; so no virtual development is observed in this sector. They claimed that qualified and meritorious persons will be deprived due to the health adviser's announcement. Politicisation of appointments would put the health management in a state of misery, said the DAB leaders hoping that all recruitments in the country will be neutral and transparent.
